Get in touch with Animals and Nature at the Calauit Island National Park!

Located in Palawan is a little exotic island where Filipinos can visit and experience an African Safari. Calauit Island is composed of 3700 hectares of land that is now a wildlife preserve and is one of the sought after stops for Coron, Palawan enthusiasts.

Calauit Island National Park has a scarred beginning. In the late 70s, the Marcoses displaced the local Tagbanua indigenous tribe to make way for their “Little Africa” project. Back then, it aspired to become a new tourism business but it never launched. In 2009, the Tagbanua people reclaimed this island as their ancestral domain title and in the same year it opened for tourists.

When you visit here, make sure to bring your own camera and comfortable shoes as you explore. There are zebras, elands, and other endemic species such as civet acts and Calamian deer – among many! Admire the animals from a distance while riding a land rover, and make sure to minimize human contact with them.
